Hayreddin Pasha (Arabic: خير الدين باشا التونسي‎, Khair al-Din Pasha al-Tunsi, c.1822-1890) was an Ottoman politician who was born to a Circassian family , and became a Grand vizier of Ottoman Tunisia then a Grand vizier of the Ottoman Empire. He was a Ottoman Tunisian political reformer during a period of growing European ascendancy. He rose to become the chief minister of the state.

Of Circassian origin, Hayreddin was born in Abkhazia into "a family of warrior notables". His father Hassan Leffch, a local chieftain, died fighting against a Russian attack on the city of Sukhum. Thereafter as a young orphan Hayreddin was sold into slavery, then still a familiar event for Circassian youth. At Istanbul, however, he was eventually traded into a prestigious household, that of the notable Tahsin Bey, a Cypriot Ottoman who was the naqib al-ashraf (head of the Prophet's descendants) and qadi al-'askar (chief judge of the army) of Anatolia, and a poet.

Tahsin Bey moved the boy to his country palace at Kanlica near the Bosporus, where he became the childhood companion of the Bey's son for a span of years. Khayr al-Din received a "first-rate education" which included the Islamic curriculum, also the Turkish language, and perhaps French; yet he was not raised as a mamluk. Following "the son's tragic premature death" Khayr al-Din was again sold, in Istanbul by Tahsin Bey to an envoy of Ahmed Bey of Tunis. This new uprooting would obviously provoke emotional turmoil in Khayr al-Din, then about 17 years old. Soon he was on board a ship bound for Africa.

Circa 1840 Hayreddin became situated at the Bardo Palace, in the court of Ahmad Bey (r.1837-1855), as a mamluk bi-l-saraya [inner palace retainer]. He resumed his high-level studies, mainly at the Bardo Military Academy (al-maktab al-Harbi) a nearby institution newly established by the bey. A key part of his education now was learning to converse in Arabic, also acquaintance with French. At the Husaynid court he abilities were soon recognized; he became favored with the attention and trust of Ahmad Bey. He rose quickly in the elite cavalry, the nucleus of the bey's new army. Moreover, during the 1840s and 1850s he was sent by the Bay on several key diplomatic missions, e.g., to the Ottoman Porte at Istanbul, which was then pursuing its Tanzimat reforms, and to European capitals, including Paris. His political career thus began auspiciously under this famously modernizing ruler.

In 1846 he accompanied the bey, as part of small staff which included the influential advisor Bin Diyaf, during a two-month state visit to France. This trip was of a special cultural and political significant in that the orthodox bey traveled for an extended stay to a non-Islamic country in order to acquire familiarity with its modern methods of operation and governance. The trip "expanded the cultural space deemed acceptable for Muslim rulers." The French took care to show France to advantage; the small Tunisian party was well received by top government officials and leading private citizens. "Having traveled beyond the land of Islam, Ahmad Bey was blessed upon his return to Tunis by the grand mufti." In 1853 Hayreddin was elevated to the highest military grade, commander of the cavalry; he also then became an aide-de-camp of the bey. Yet shortly thereafter he was sent to Paris to arrange a loan for the bey's regime, but where instead he spend four years attempting to reclaim large sums embezzled by the notable Mahmud bin 'Ayyad, former head of the newly created national bank of Tunis, who with foresight had already secured French citizenship. During his years occupied with negotiations in Paris, Hayreddin also managed to browse libraries and bookshops, to improve his French, asking many questions, and to study European society, industry, and finance.
Because of the dire financial situation caused in part by the embezzlement of bin 'Ayyad, the bey's loan did not appear prudent to Hayreddin, according to Prof. Abun-Nasr. Nonetheless, the bey had stifled most political opposition to his financial schemes by long cultivation of the urban ulama and the rural tribal leaders. Due to Hayreddin's passive resistance, however, the loan was still being negotiated when Ahmed Bey died in 1855.

This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article:
Circassians

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.

Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The Circassians (Russian: Черкесы Čerkesy), also known by their endonym Adyghe (Circassian: Адыгэхэр Adygekher, Russian: Ады́ги Adýgi), are a Northwest Caucasian nation native to Circassia, many of whom were displaced in the course of the Russian conquest of the Caucasus in the 19th century, especially after the Russo-Circassian War in 1864. In its narrowest sense, the term "Circassian" includes the twelve Adyghe (Circassian: Адыгэ, Adyge) princedoms (three democratic and nine aristocratic); Abdzakh, Besleney, Bzhedug, Hatuqwai, Kabardian, Mamkhegh, Natukhai, Shapsug, Temirgoy, Ubykh, Yegeruqwai and Zhaney, each star on the Circassian flag representing each princedom. However, due to Soviet administrative divisions, Circassians were also designated as the following: Adygeans (Adyghe in Adygea), Cherkessians (Adyghe in Karachay-Cherkessia), Kabardians (Adyghe in Kabardino-Balkaria) and Shapsugians (Adyghe in Krasnodar Krai), although all the four are essentially the same people residing in different political units.
Most Circassians are Sunni Muslim. The Circassians mainly speak the Circassian languages, a Northwest Caucasian dialect continuum with three main dialects and numerous sub-dialects. Many Circassians also speak Turkish, Russian, English, Arabic and Hebrew, having been exiled by Russia to lands of the Ottoman Empire, where the majority of them today live. About 800,000 Circassians remain in historical Circassia (the modern-day titular Circassian republics of Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia as well as Krasnodar Krai and the southwestern parts of Stavropol Krai and Rostov Oblast), and others live in the Russian Federation outside these republics and krais. The 2010 Russian Census recorded 718,727 Circassians, of whom 516,826 are Kabardian, 124,835 are other Adyghe in Adygea, 73,184 are Cherkess and 3,882 Shapsug. The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization estimated in the early 1990s that there are as many as 3.7 million "ethnic Circassian" diaspora (in over 50 countries) outside the titular Circassian republics (meaning that only one in seven "ethnic Circassians" live in the homeland), and that, of these 3.7 million, more than 2 million live in Turkey, 300,000 in the Levant (mostly modern-day Jordan and Syria) and Mesopotamia and 50,000 in Western Europe and the United States.

These stairs have a lot of bounce to them, I’m going to frame a support wall in the middle to fix it.
First, I measure and lay off where the wall will go.
Then I cut a pressure treated 2x4 to the width of the stairs- 42”.
I fasten it to the floor using three masonry screws.
Next, I use my 4-foot level to plumb up and mark where the top of the wall will meet the stairs.
I make a mark on both ends and connect them with a level.
Now I need to figure out the angle of the steps- I start by making a plumb line on the stringer; then I take my speed square and rotate it so it’s parallel with this line- It’s a 31-degree angle.
I used my table saw to make a 31-degree bevel on both sides of the top plate.
I fasten this to the bottom of the stairs using decks screws- two per stringer.
Measuring from the bottom plate to the top plate I get the lengths for my studs.
I set my miter saw to 31-degrees and make the cuts.
It’s good to check that the angle is correct before cutting all of them.
I use screws to install everything so there are no squeaks- two in the top and two in the bottom.
Finally, I put the rest of the studs in- one directly under each stringer.
Now, these stairs are super sturdy – if you like this content, be sure to like and subscribe. @hausplans

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (Russian: Микоян и Гуревич МиГ-21; NATO reporting name: Fishbed) is a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. Its nicknames include: "balalaika", because its planform resembles the stringed musical instrument of the same name; "Ołówek", Polish for "pencil", due to the shape of its fuselage, and "Én Bạc", meaning "silver swallow", in Vietnamese.
Approximately 60 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations six decades after its maiden flight. It made aviation records, became the most-produced supersonic jet aircraft in aviation history, the most-produced combat aircraft since the Korean War and previously the longest production run of a combat aircraft (now exceeded by both the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon).

Circassia... the land of the free Circassian people and the home of nobility and knighthood.

The idea of a Circassian flag is as old as the Circassian nation itself.

Historically, Circassian tribes had their own distinguished flags.

The idea of a unifying flag that represents all Circassians came from the leader and diplomat Sefer Bey Zhanoko in 1836.

Sewn by a Circassian princess in Istanbul, three copies of the new flag were sent to Circassia with David Urquhart the Scottish diplomat and friend of Sefer Bey.

Traditionally, a Circassian knight fills his pocket with arrows when heading to battle, but only takes three arrows when heading for hunting.

A symbol of peace but also power.

The twelve stars represent the twelve Circassian clans.

Green…. the colour of the great Caucasus meadows.

Later the black colour of arrows and stars on the flag was changed to yellow.

Since it was first designed in 1836, the current flag has been representing all the Circassians all around the world.

The Circassian nation Flag is the official flag of the Republic of Adyghea in the Russian Federation.

Today it is the oldest flag of all the Russian federation subjects.

In March 2010 Circassian Council (Адыгэ Хасэ) of the Republic of Adygea decided to celebrate 25th of April as the National Circassian Flag Day (Адыгэ Ныпым И Маф).

Since then, this date marks the Circassian celebration of their national flag all around the world.

We The World Circassian Youth Organisation believe that the Circassian flag is the symbol of our unity around the world.
It is the symbol of our nation's consciousness and future.
We are Circassians and this is the greatest symbol of our people.

How can you preserve your culture in a melting pot of cultures?

This question is important with global migration due to wars, natural disasters, and violence in so many places in the world. Now we all hunger to discover our DNA, our heritage, our origins. It's human nature to want to trace back our ancestry.

Join Suhein Beck in this episode as she invites brother Yusef and sister Maza Eshak to discuss how and why they are working so hard to preserve our ancient Circassian / Adighe Culture here in Southern California, USA.

A special tribute to their father, Zuher Eshak Melgoush, with appreciation & encouragement for them to keep inspiring the NEXT generation to HOLD THE KEY OF CULTURE onward!

**Circassians were expelled by the Russians after a150+/- years of war/genocide in the Caucasus Mountains of Southern Russia between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. The fear of extinction has driven Circassians around the world to a passionate obsession of holding on to their heritage. Since May 21, 1864, Circassians have thrived all over the Mideast, Europe, America, and Australia and have proven to be resilient in spirit and keeping their fundamental traditions alive.

This video proves the Circassian spirit is still vibrant and continues.

Suhein Beck presents this episode as a testimony of human nature's innate need to identify our roots. We can roam the earth freely, but there is always some form of pull-back in our souls to self-reflect.

Please share your thoughts about YOUR culture and what you enjoy of your own history...

They are the fourth largest ethnic group in the Middle East, but they never obtained a permanent nation-state.

Around 35 million Kurdish reside in the mountainous regions located at the borders of Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Iran, and Armenia.

During the rise of the Ottoman empire, the Kurds were promised a separate homeland. When the borders of modern Turkey and its neighbours were drawn there was no more talk of an independent Kurdistan.

The thought of a free Kurdistan, can be worrying, will there ever be an independent state?
