Circassians are one of the North Caucasus' nations, the region with a diverse and rich culture - although their music is quite obscure, especially outside of this region. Punk-ethnographic label Ored Recordings from the small city of Nalchik explore cities and villages, aiming to find traditional, local, ethnic music of the Caucasian people. Ored Recordings takes different approaches towards traditional Circassian music in its current state: from authentic storytelling to modern post-folk music and black metal, in which melodies and images of Circassian ritual culture are revised.
The Reporter
Ored Recordings is an independent ethnographic project from Kabardino-Balkaria (southern Russia), founded in 2013 by Bulat Khalilov & Timur Kodzokov. Ored Recordings travels to towns, villages and mountain settlements in Kabardino-Balkaria, Adygea, Southern Dagestan and Azerbaijan in search of folk musicians. The guiding principle of the project is the use of recordings made in the field: Ored only uses live recordings and are opposed to studio work with archaic folk music. They are interested in living sound that captures a specific moment with its special atmosphere and natural imperfections. Ored Recordings is keen to popularize and manifest the artistic potential of traditional music. The creators of the label value Circassian legends, Cossack songs, and the Sufi rituals of Chechnya. They collect field recordings from dinner parties, services of worship and festivals. They are interested in questions of authenticity, personality and canon. The group members give lectures to accompany their musical program, focusing on how local, folk art exists in the modern global information space.
About Reports from Other Continents

It’s a platform for people to tell their own story. Normally, Le Guess Who? shares these kinds of special stories about worldwide musical traditions and cultural developments through concerts and performing artists; now the festival has found a way to do so online.
All reports are made specifically for Le Guess Who? and are commissioned by the festival.

Having gathered further along the route, one of the drivers decided to climb up and take a beautiful photo of our camp from above the mountain. Having almost risen, the car slipped into a slip and began to lose speed, and then, as if on a sled, it slid down the slope, then everything developed very quickly and the car began to turn/. The wheels disassembled and the disks rested on the ground, a coup is inevitable. According to the driver, he remembers the first two revolutions, then apparently hit the roof and lost consciousness. The driver was taken to Nalchik to the hospital and got examined. The result was damage to the ligament of the knee, a slight concussion, and trauma to the chest and left shoulder. The car suffered more severely and requires body replacement, the units were not damaged, and the car is on the move.

The Circassian Circle appeared in the British ballroom in the 1820s from a concept of arranging a popular quadrille or country dance figure in a progressive Sicilian circle. It became very popular in several main forms and further versions evolved via the folk process in the villages of the British Isles. It was still very popular in Australia as a ballroom dance in the early decades of the 20th C enjoying a place on programmes up till the 1930s as part of the Old Time Dance revival. Any references to Circassian Circle up until then relate to these forms, part 2 did not exist till introduced through British folk dance revivals and the Australian ‘bush dance’ movement of the 1960s and 70s; ‘part 1’ was then used to distinguish the original progressive Sicilian style.
Thus the version commencing with the ‘right & left’ movement has been taken from figure 1 of ‘The Quadrille’ or ‘First Set’ and the version with the ‘hands across & back again’ (right & left star) is from figure 1 of the Caledonians Quadrille.
Lovenberry’s MC Manual of the Ithaca School of Dancing in Brisbane 1884 lists nine different versions of Circassian Circle of which No. V is a particularly good version incorporating both figure 1 of the Caledonians Quadrille and Galop forward and back around the circle followed by a half ladies’ chain for the progression. This has been shown as version 3.
Other Circassian Circles described have adapted country dance figures such as from the Spanish Waltz into what is now known as the Waltz Country Dance, and the British folk dance ‘Cottages’ can be linked to a Circassian Circle arrangement from figure 4 of the Lancers, whilst the American version of the Soldier’s Joy is a Circassian Circle adaptation from an earlier Country Dance by that name.
Circassian Circle part 2 was not known by that name in Australia till the 70s bush dance revival, but was known under the name of Stockyards or Bull Ring as a final figure of the Quadrille (First Set).

Shehzade Mustafa's mother was Mahidevran. According to the doctor of historical sciences, Samir Khotko, Kanuk Beslenov, the senior prince of Besleney. Mustafa was a kind and trusting person. And that is what killed him. He believed to the end that his father would never take his life from him, because Suleiman even once swore to him in this. Shehzade Mustafa fearlessly went to meet him in the hope of talking with his father, the Lord. But the meeting ended badly for him.
This is how Mustafa was shown to us in the series. But what was his life really like? What kind of person was he and why was he executed by his own father?
