By the early 19th century, Russian Czars started to make a concerted effort to bring the isolate yet important region of the Caucasus under their control. They'd soon encounter various mountainous peoples of the region who were always difficult foe to subdue. A resistance movement soon developed, united under the banner of Islam, calling themselves Murids. Under a series of leaders, most famously Imam Shamil, the Murids would make Dagestan and Chechnya a graveyard for tens of thousands of Russian soldiers, as they stubbornly clung on to the hope remaining independent against an aggressive foreign outside power. In a classic tale of David vs Goliath, for over 30 years the Murids would outmaneuver the juggernaut Russian army numerous times before finally succumbing to the sad fate of defeat.

The Circassian Genocide has been hidden from the world. It is the first genocide of modern European history that ripped Circassians from the coasts of Circassia. For Russia to build their empire they have chosen to destroy the people of Circassia and keep their land. Millions of Circassians died at the hands of Imperialist Russia.

Now 147 years later Circassians are organizing a global initiative against the Sochi Olympic Games. Sochi was the capital of Circassia and the main port where the whole nation was annihilated and forced into exile. Krasnaya Polyana is where the Olympic main venues will be held and that is the site where Russia declared victory over Circassia 150 years earlier.

It's not just about memory it's also about the continual crimes against humanity conducted by Russia against the Circassian nation, environmental destruction of a UNESCO World Heritage site, the corruption where the Sochi Games will cost $50 billion dollars and be the most expensive in history and the annihilation of human rights in the region.

We call upon not just Circassians but to all those who feel passion for humanity.

We also ask all to call their local Russian Embassies/Consulates to ask where is Circassia.

The Circassian Festival for the 9th time take a place at Kfar Kama from 23/7/2015 to 25/7/2015.
The main event with attendees of thousand at the Circassian youth and culture center were the Great show of the Circassian Jordanian folk dance ICCA - ( International Circassian Cultur Academy ) with over 70 members.

Many Adyghe dances resemble birds in flight. Thus, the drawing and plasticity of the Islamey dance resemble two eagles soaring in the sky. There is a legend about a young man named Islam who was taken to a dance circle (ceug) with a girl he was in love with. Thinking about how to express his feelings, he imagined the eagles circling in the sky, as if in a dance. Imitating their flight, he began to move quickly and smoothly in a circle, spreading his arms like wings. The girl adjusted herself to him, repeating his movements. This is how the beautiful lyrical dance "Islamey" was born.
