The Caucasian languages comprise a large and extremely varied array of languages in and around the Caucasus Mountains, which lie between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Linguistic comparison allows the classification of these languages into several different language families, with little or no discernible affinity to each other. However, the languages of the Caucasus are sometimes mistakenly referred to as a family of languages.
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.

My presentation will be about the Circassian (Adyghe) language and its current situation. Circassian language belongs to the Northwestern Caucasian language family.
UNESCO classified Adyghe language in its 2009 UNESCO Map of the World’s Languages in Danger as vulnerable. It is mainly spoken in the Adygea region in contemporary Russia, and in diaspora countries in Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Syria, United States and Europe. Today, Circassian language is facing a number of challenges. In this talk I will try to introduce you to the Circassian language and the challenges it currently faces.

Circassian History in 13 minutes. Part Two - Modern Times
Circassian History in 13 minutes. Part One.
Circassia... the land of the free Circassian people and the home of nobility and knighthood.
The idea of a Circassian flag is as old as the Circassian nation itself.
Historically, Circassian tribes had their own distinguished flags.
The idea of a unifying flag that represents all Circassians came from the leader and diplomat Sefer Bey Zhanoko in 1836.
Sewn by a Circassian princess in Istanbul, three copies of the new flag were sent to Circassia with David Urquhart the Scottish diplomat and friend of Sefer Bey.
Traditionally, a Circassian knight fills his pocket with arrows when heading to battle, but only takes three arrows when heading for hunting.
A symbol of peace but also power.
The twelve stars represent the twelve Circassian clans.
Green…. the colour of the great Caucasus meadows.
Later the black colour of arrows and stars on the flag was changed to yellow.
Since it was first designed in 1836, the current flag has been representing all the Circassians all around the world.
The Circassian nation Flag is the official flag of the Republic of Adyghea in the Russian Federation.
Today it is the oldest flag of all the Russian federation subjects.
In March 2010 Circassian Council (Адыгэ Хасэ) of the Republic of Adygea decided to celebrate 25th of April as the National Circassian Flag Day (Адыгэ Ныпым И Маф).
Since then, this date marks the Circassian celebration of their national flag all around the world.
We The World Circassian Youth Organisation believe that the Circassian flag is the symbol of our unity around the world.
It is the symbol of our nation's consciousness and future.
We are Circassians and this is the greatest symbol of our people.

A comparison of all the genocides committed throughout history by lowest to highest lowest estimated death toll.
What constitutes a genocide is a contentious issue but this list goes by the UN Convention's definition which is: "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group".
Many events such as The Great Leap Forward are omitted due to not meeting this standard.
Apologies if any events that would count as a genocide are missing.

It seems impossible that we would forget genocides of entire people, but events like the Assyrian genocide show us how fickle human memory can be. Also called the Sayfo, meaning ‘the sword’, the Assyrian genocide was one of three mass campaigns of extermination waged by the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. Alongside the more famous Armenian genocide and that of the Greeks, hundreds of thousands of Assyrians lost their lives in racially and religiously motivated atrocities at the command of the Ottoman government between 1914 and 1918.
The struggle of the Assyrians is easily overlooked, but it contains tales of incredible brutality and of admirable resistance. Today on A Day In History, we look at how the atrocities of the Sayfo unfolded, the deplorable ways that the Ottomans deceived their victims, and the stories of the men who took up arms to defend themselves from those who would exterminate them.

Prelude
The Assyrians are an ethnic group united by their shared languages which derive from ancient Aramaeic. Christianity They are also thorouglhy Christian although split between several denominations, of which the largest are the Orthodox Assyrian Church of the East and Syrian Orthodox Church, and the Chaldean Catholic Church.
Unlike the Armenians, the Assyrians have never been politically unified - there is no real link between the ancient Assyrian empire and the modern Assyrian people - and they were treated as a loose ethnic group with no fixed territory. Like other Christian minorities in the Ottoman Empire, they faced sporadic violence and persecution for decades before the genocide. In 1895, Assyrians were among the victims of the waves of violence that killed thousands of Christians across the Empire and they faced regular discrimination in law and public life. Violence from Turkish authorities and Kurdish raiders continued throughout the early 20th century with land seizures, forced conversion, and mob violence becoming regular features of life.
Things changed with the rise of Turkish ethnonationalism and the First World War. The Empire’s new ruler Talaat Pasha envisioned an ethnically Turkish empire where minorities were excluded, or eliminated. The Ottomans also saw the Assyrians as a security risk, fearing that they would side with Russia once the fighting began.

The Caucasus was runner-up in my patron poll, and then it won in the rematch. So, it's time we travel to this mountainous region and explore its complicated linguistic situation.
We go through major languages, family by family, briefly meeting Indo-European languages like Armenian and Kurdish, Turkic ones like Azeri, and even a Mongolic tongue named Kalmyk Oirat. Then, we see how linguists draw a line between "languages of the Caucasus" and the indigenous "Caucasian languages".
The Caucasian languages fall in three families: Northeast Caucasian, Northwest Caucasian, and Kartvelian in the south. Explore some of their intriguing features, including massive numbers of consonants and one of the earliest documented examples of something called "ergativity".
Despite some similar features, these languages don't belong to the same family. In fact, they may not even be a true "linguistic area"!
At the end, we're still left with the question: why so many languages? We'll consider how one linguist looks at the relationship between geography and the lives of language families.

Khabib Nurmagomedov: one of the most famous Muslims in the world. Proud of his Dagestani heritage, he is also seen representing Russia. So how did Dagestan come under Russian rule? Well, the same way that Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia did! The subject matter that we’re going to cover in this video sheds light onto a period of Persian history that was a far cry from the prestigious heights of its past glory. But the same can be said about the Islamic world in general because this was a period that brought an aggressive and energised Europe hell bent on acquiring resources from every corner of the world against Muslim states that had fallen behind in the race for technological progress.

A documentary about the history of Circassian in Kabarday language
Cerkezlerin tarihi belgeseli-Kabardeyce
Die Geschichte der Tscherkessen auf Kabardinisch
Origins of the Caucasians, Caucasus region and Rasicm.
Have you ever heard these words before?
Circassians, Forced immigration, Ethnic cleansing, Fourth biggest genocide in human history.
The Adyghe are the native people of the Northwest Caucasus, better known in history as Circassians (Cherkess) A nation that inhabited the Caucasus for the last three millennia. Faced several historic invasions by Allans, Sarmats, Huns, Avars, Tatars and recently … The Tsarist Russia.
The first imperialistic contact between the Circassians and the Russians took place at the turn of the 16th century. Russian imperial authorities reached an agreement with Kabardian Circassian princes to accept trade and military support against the mutual foe - The Tatars. This guaranteed a powerful ally against the expansionist Crimean tatars who were backed by the ottomans. Russian tsars, fearing the growing power of rival European empires, sought to secure Russia's position as the dominating power in Eastern Europe.
To do this, access to warm water ports was essential. The Black Sea was the most convenient target. In other words, this meant the land of Circassia. The beginning of the war was in the eastern part of Circassia. In 1763, on the left bank of the river Terek, the Mozdok fortress was founded. Since then armed clashes between Circassians and Russian troops began to take place constantly in Circassia.
To isolate the Circassians, in 1837-1839, the Russians established a fortified line on the Black Sea coast, and eventually placed the coast on a blockade. During the 101 years of war, Circassians tried to utilize both military and diplomatic means. In 1861, the Russian Tsar Nicolay II went to Circassia to personally negotiate with the local Majlis Government headed by Hatir Bey Tsay.
Russia never witnessed a similar precedent; a Tsar negotiating with the enemy was all but normal. The Circassian government sent envoys to all superpowers. The Ottoman Empire however took advantage of the Circassian crisis, while Great Britain remained neutral. On 24 March 1864, the last, and one of the most fierce battles on the Circassian front took place on the highlands of Krasnaya Polyana , near the Circassian town of Kwabida. Krasnaya Polyana , which means the red plateau, was named after the terrible bloodshed that took place during the battle.
On 21 May 1864, Russia declared the end of the Circassian –Russian war. After 101 years, and after paying a high price of lives on both sides Russia conquered Circassia. The Circassian losses didn’t stop by the end of the war. The Russian continuous policy of forced immigration and ethnic cleansing had been taking place for more than a decade. 90% of the total Circassian population were forced to leave their homeland.
The majority died from epidemics or drowned in exhausted Ottoman ships in the Black sea. Only 700 thousand Circassians live inside their homeland today. Circassians diaspora exists in tens of countries around the world.
The 21st of May each year has become the Circassian patriotic day. Mourning has become the instigation of renaissance, honour and a way to retrieve an effective role in humanity. A day for a genuine belief that there is no Caucasus without Circassians and there is no Circassians without the Caucasus.
This material was developed by the Circassian Youth Organization ( CYO) following members: Mastyrko Gushaw Qumoq Pshimaf Kem Tembot Jalouqa Blan Baj Bataraz Warq Mesha With special thanks to Dr. Kesht Ali See Less
A war that lasted for more than 100 years, an honorable resistance, a great Genocide and Massacre, the struggle of Circassians who were exiled from their homeland and lost almost all of their population. Circassians did not forget the Genocide even after 156 years, and they kept their identity despite all the suffering. Circassians demand Russia to face the reality and recognize the genocide and return all their rights in their homeland by compensating for historical injustices.

The Circassian genocide was a systematic ethnic cleansing of the Circassia peoples across the North Caucasus

We Circassians became invisible.
A few years ago I auditioned for a TEDx Talk and was accepted based on THIS video. No one could measure HOW DELIRIOUSLY HAPPY I WAS!
Then this TEDx Talk was canceled for COVID and for the reasons that the staff could not specifically verify my facts as there was no way for them to verify the information I presented, because our "history" can not be cross-examined and authenticated by any legitimate sources, therefore NOT published. So I was not invited back to do the TEDx Talk after COVID.
So once again...we tried to speak...and were silenced.
The generational trauma of war, genocide and exile is NOT as bad as the pain of being silenced.
SILENCE IS THE ULTIMATE BURDEN WE CARRY...
