My presentation will be about the Circassian (Adyghe) language and its current situation. Circassian language belongs to the Northwestern Caucasian language family.

UNESCO classified Adyghe language in its 2009 UNESCO Map of the World’s Languages in Danger as vulnerable. It is mainly spoken in the Adygea region in contemporary Russia, and in diaspora countries in Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Syria, United States and Europe. Today, Circassian language is facing a number of challenges. In this talk I will try to introduce you to the Circassian language and the challenges it currently faces.

Umut Uğrak hails from Izmir, Turkey. He has a degree in Computer Science. Besides his degree, he’s a language enthusiast and also a freelance tutor/translator.
