Circassian Film: Bela – Tragedy of a Circassian Princess

Nestled in the original film are significant Circassian culture and folklore segments (about a third of the material), which have been pieced together to make a “Circassian” film. The setting of the novelette is Kabarda and the film was shot there. Kabardian text and songs were written by the famous Kabardian writer and poet Aleem K’ischoqwe. Also, Circassian actors played principal and support roles. Non-Circassian actors (the Russian officer Maksim Maksimich spoke Kabardian) were coached to speak Circassian. The Circassian music, dances (dancers were coached and supervised by B. Qashirghe), and costumes are authentic, and obviously the production team went out of their way to bring about a very high quality film.

The Kabardin (Circassian / Adyghe) are the main ethnic group of Kabardino-Balkaria, a small republic in the south of the Russian Federation. Approximately 600,000 Kabardin live in Russia. These proud people are brave warriors and skilful land tillers. Their history is a history of battles for freedom, honor and the right to live in accordance with centuries-old traditions which have long since become their way of life.

This is a review of why Navajo is the world’s hardest language to learn, harder even than Chinese, Korean, or Arabic. (In my humble opinion as someone who has studied all of these languages.) The primary reason for this involves Navajo verb complexity: they change like a Rubik’s cube depending on 7 different modes, 12 aspects, and 10 sub-aspects, which mix and match to generate different forms like a giant times table. In addition, pronunciation is also extremely complex with rare sounds like ł, tones, and glottal stops!

"Languages of the peoples of the Caucasus" is a project dedicated to the 2019 year declared by the UN as the year of the languages of the world's indigenous peoples.

The Caucasus is a unique region where dozens of unique human languages are interwoven. Many of them have no related groups and are fragments of the languages of the ancient inhabitants of Asia Minor and Europe, preserved in the Caucasus Mountains in a unique way.

Our task is to preserve the words of these languages and share them with the world. In a series of graphic clips supplemented by infographics, you will learn more about the languages and language groups of the Caucasus, about the speakers of these languages - their number and places of residence, about the peculiarities of the history of the peoples - speakers of Caucasian languages.

We have prepared for you 200 words and 30 colloquial phrases in the main languages and dialects of the peoples of the Caucasus, written and voiced by people for whom they are native. We will accompany some videos with information and sound of extinct and ancient forms of the languages of the Caucasus, thanks to cooperation with linguists.

Rare languages are rare jewels and our joint task is to preserve the diversity of the culture of all mankind for future generations in the context of globalization and digitalization of the world.
